Venus Flytrap Seedling Care Guide 🌱- Growing Baby Venus Flytraps
I’ve been slowly introducing direct sunlight to my traps and they still seem to burn. I let them have around 4 hours of morning sun and then a few more hours of indirect light in the afternoon. It gets over 100 where I live so I bring them inside. I have them sitting in water as well. The pots are plastic and I used carnivorous plant soil to repot one about a week ago. I let them have indirect light for the first week after purchase to start, and then 1 hour of direct sunlight for about 3-4 days before increasing it to 2 hours and then 3 hours and so on. Love your content btw!
Thank you! And solid process. Keep enjoying your plants 🌱 ✨
Thanks for the video. Just want to point out you said, 50-50 pure peat moss and fertilizers. I’m sure you meant “perlite” Please keep up the great work. My traps are growing well because of your videos 😊
Thanks for watching! My bad on that. You got it , I meant perlite
Are these plants supposed to be growing and hanging to one side as shown in the video or are they typically hanging off every side of their pots?
The recipe for the carnivorous plant soil in the video is 50-50 pure peat moss and perlite ;) feel free to share any questions
Walmart rescue! That is what I have… thank you for sharing.
You bet!
so what if you don't have special soil
Just regular soil doesn’t work, but you can purchase pure peat/ sphagnum in some garden shops
How to treat Spider mites on Venus flytraps? Those very small red spiders.
Try Avid miticide
Thank you for your video. My VFTs seem to really like the same MaxSea delusion mixed with dried bloodworms. Mainly for the younger plants (traps that hasn’t produced flower stalks). I feed a small blob of the MaxSea/Dried blood worm mix about 1/3 the size of the trap I intend to feed. Bigger portions seem to cause the trap to rot before it complete digestion.
Interesting! That must provide a ton of nutrients for them
Haha I love how you reused the exact veggie tray that I'm using 😂
Awesome 😎
I don't know what's up with mine. I put live meal worms in traps and they don't trigger. I've tried tickling the hairs myself repeatedly and nothing
Sometimes leaves are older and they don’t close anymore. Just a thought…
Thank you 😊
Welcome!
Cheers for the info 👌😊
Thank you!
i do think it is great that this place your are in plays piano to the plants, i guess it relaxes the plants😉
Indeed! Amazing ;)
Ya, I just spray the plant leaves ONLY not soak the soil
This is a great and helpful video. It was all the info I needed. Thank you so much. I just bought my 1st one and I really want it to survive. I didn’t realize they were so much work as far as specific water, soil, pots, and food, but I’m up for it! ☺️
You got it! Happy growing 🌱
@@venusflytrapworld Thank you!
so i use max sea but i put it in a bottle of ro water and spray the plant and it seems to work for me 😁
Nice!
You rock, I’m subscribed! Thanks for putting this information out there! Is there any Venus Fly trap books you’d recommend about their history and/or care (maybe you should write one 😊). I hear they only grow in the wild in North and South Carolina.
Got some projects on that ;) but I recommend Savage garden, beautiful book and great info
As you said, the leaves (the “traps”) mimic flowers. But Venus flytraps also produce real flowers (and the flowers produce seeds) The real flowers look nothing like the “traps.” I’m sure you’ve covered that in another video.
So true! Amazing plants with traps are leaves and they also grow flowers for reproduction.
Do you fertilize/feed your plants? Feel free to ask any questions here 😊
Don’t buy any wild-collected flytraps (or other carnivorous plants). But as for seeing them in the wild, you won’t see any wild ones unless you’re in a very specific area (roughly, within about a 70-mile radius of Wilmington, NC, USA). That’s where the poachers poach them. If you’re there, by all means try to find some, and enjoy looking at them, but don’t touch them. I’ve heard a report that they have been introduced and naturalized (i.e., gone wild) in a couple of other places in North America, but I haven’t seen any proof of this.
Good information. Thanks!
You got it!
Wonderful and informative
Thank you!
Where is this?
Wilmington, NC ✨🌱✨
Hi, thank you for the good information in this video. I want to ask some questions. Like you have said in this video, if the plant did not go to dormant state, it will live several years and die right. I have seen a video to multiply venus fly trap by seperating the tubers. My question is , if my plant do not go to dormant state and I use the multiplying Venus fly trap method, will I be able to always reproduce it without the plant dying. As example, I only buy one Venus fly trap, and I just seperate it and plant it in different pot so that it can reproduce. Is it can sustain longer by always keeping it reproduce. I'm so sorry if my question is to long and my English is not so good. Thank you so much for or the response. Keep up sharing good information. I hope this channel will become more successful.
I think you could! Just keep in mind that when plants are weak they stop propagating, so splitting wont be possible. Leaf pullings are an option, but they will take some time to grow
@@venusflytrapworld okayy. Thanks a lot. Have a nice day

I just got my V baby and was thinking the miracle grow peat moss wouldn’t work. Glad I found your channel to confirm that! Really appreciate all the helpful information.
Good luck!!
I bought a Venus Flytrap and it was in a dome cup. Would I replant back into a dome setting or replant in just a pot. I really need to know because It really needs repotted ASAP. It has grown so many that I'm afraid it will choke itself out
Repot in a regular pot, but give extra water to help through the transition
Just bought a flytrap so this was very helpful. I'm a serial plant killer, but I will do my best thanks.
Glad it helped!
Would be nice to see the results of the stalk propagation.
Can I use well water
Depends of its mineral content! Low ppm works
Thank you for telling me that
From the research that I’ve done it said they have to be triggered inside at least five times but I haven’t been able to get it to work
It should trigger with 2 touches :) thanks for watching!
This doesn’t necessarily make sense because mine open the next day and still have the bug in there
Sometimes they are a bit of a mystery 🤔
I thought they could raw if they had too much liquid in them
Bugs can rot after the trap opens, but when it is closed it is sealed shut
Im 43 and I've always wanted one since I was a kid and never got around to getting one, yesterday me and my son were walking around Walmart of all places and they had racks and racks of these things that looked like they were about to die. We grabbed about a dozen of them. Thank you for all the information! We needed it! ✌️
Same! I'm 43, and finally gave in and bought one at Sprouts.
Amazing!! Enjoy your new plant 🌱
My plant flowered and I was excited because I had never seen this. So I let it do it's thing. The flowers have now died from either weather or end of life....I'm not sure. Should I cut the stalk off? Is there zero chance it will grow anything at this point?
"Punishable by law?" So if they catch you with a poached one they give you a law?
Maybe 😉 just dont poach them 😄
While in dormancy period,do we still need to give water ?
Yes, but a lot less than usual. It would consume really little
So much wrong in what you said. 1st off... Black roots are NOT a sign of root rot in Venus Flytraps. Their roots turn black as they age & put on secondary growth. Furthermore... Venus Flytraps canNOT suffer root rot from too much humidity or water. They are bog plants & they grow in standing water in their native habitat. They grow in WET lands. The same is true for all Sarracenia species, & most Sundews. I grow all my Venus Flytraps & Sarracenias outside in 100% cut peat moss, with the pots 75% submerged in water. Their roots stay soaking wet all Spring, Summer, & Autumn when temperatures are above 60° F & humidity is 99%, in direct Sunlight. They only come out of the water in Late Autumn & Winter as temps drop & they need to be sheltered from temps below 25° F. What causes root rot in these plants is fertilizer & mineralized water, which burn the roots. Carnivorous Plants cannot survive in nutrient rich soils, especially soils rich in soluble nitrogen salts, like ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate, ect. Fungal & bacterial growth on Carnivorous plants is directly attributed to insufficient sunlight. Too much shade prevents the plants from producing a thick cuticle that protects them from fungal spores & bacteria penetrating their tissues. And ironically, these very same bacteria & fungi are nessecary, for strong root growth, as their byproducts provide essential nutrients to Venus Flytraps. Lastly... Venus Flytraps REQUIRE a winter dormancy. They must be exposed to cold weather throughout winter. The reason their large leaves die as winter approaches... is because they are going dormant... NOT because of root rot. As Venus Flytraps go dormant, they will shed their large leaves known as their Summer Roset... & they will grown much smaller leaves in their place, known as their Winter Roset. This is completely natural. It is suppose to happen.
She looks like a pretty Penelope cruz
Thanks for the great video! I am wondering, after watching this and many other videos, how does a Venus Fly Trap grow without nutrients? They are supposed to be grown in medium with no nutrients, like peat moss, and watered only with distilled water. Besides the CO2 + Light, where do they get nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium, among others, to grow, and produce plant mass?
Please tell me if this can solve my fruit flies pandemic. I can't even eat fruits anymore bc of these flies
Carnivorous plants can help.! Especially sundews and pitcher plants
Is coconut fibre substrate ok to use with carnivorous plants?
Thanks for uploading this. Walmart has some venus flytraps so I'm gonna buy one
Glad I could help
Thanks

I am a praying mantis keeper so I always have live blue bottle flies on hand since that is the primary food for the mantis's. I thought it would be fun & easy to get a venus fly trap. I got one & I absolutely love it! I have it next to my mantis enclosure under the large grow light for my vivariums. It has been thriving. it is so fun to feed it & watch it snap closed. The mantis's also require distilled water so I have that on hand also. I love this little plant.
That is awesome ✨
